Value Proposition Canvas
Definition
The Value Proposition Canvas, created by Alexander Osterwalder (2012, Strategyzer), is a tool that helps design, test, and refine how a product or service creates value for a specific customer segment.
It is composed of two blocks:
- Customer Profile (what the customer wants and needs)
- Value Map (how your product or service meets those needs)
The goal is to achieve a fit between what you offer and what the customer actually cares about.
Benefits
- Helps create customer-centric offerings
- Clarifies your product’s unique value
- Reduces risk of building features nobody needs
- Supports targeted marketing and product design
- Works for startups, products, services, and innovation teams
