Value Proposition Canvas

Definition

The Value Proposition Canvas, created by Alexander Osterwalder (2012, Strategyzer), is a tool that helps design, test, and refine how a product or service creates value for a specific customer segment.

It is composed of two blocks:

  1. Customer Profile (what the customer wants and needs)
  2. Value Map (how your product or service meets those needs)

The goal is to achieve a fit between what you offer and what the customer actually cares about.

Benefits

  • Helps create customer-centric offerings
  • Clarifies your product’s unique value
  • Reduces risk of building features nobody needs
  • Supports targeted marketing and product design
  • Works for startups, products, services, and innovation teams
